Solar Photovoltaic

Solar Photovoltaic (or ‘PV’) panels convert the sun’s energy into electricity for you to use in your home. Whenever the amount of the electricity generated exceeds your electricity demand at any given time, the excess automatically flows into the National Grid - and you are paid for it by your electricity supplier !
The South West receives significantly more solar energy per square metre than the rest of the UK. Solar PV panels simply require daylight to produce electricity – and will produce significant amounts of power even on cloudy days.
If you have your PV system installed by Microgeneration Certification Scheme accredited installer, you can enjoy the full financial benefits of generating your own clean, green electricity under the government’s Feed-In Tariff scheme:-
Further changes to the FiT rate have been announced and there is still an element of uncertainty.
The Government statement will be found at DECC
An explanation of recent changes can be read here
Even with the proposed new rates, reduction in PV system costs mean that you can still enjoy an index linked tax free returns of over 10%, tax free, for 25 years.
You are paid for every unit (kilowatt hour) your system generates (whether you use the electricity or export it back into the National Grid).
Your electricity bill is significantly reduced, since you will use a substantial proportion of the electricity generated by your PV system.
In addition, you are paid for each unit of electricity that you export to the National Grid.
Planning permission is not usually required.
